" Assuming that you're being honest about having played and gained XP and time for the pet already and it isn't gaining levels then that does sound like a bug. But the process happens slower at higher levels, so you might be expecting it to gain loyalty faster than it can. Normally they would gain loyalty exp easy and it would just be a matter of having the pet active but its not the case. If you open you character sheet and click on the pet tab it will show you your pet’s xp bar at the bottom. You dont get loyalty by just feeding it. After that, your pet will only gain TP equal to its loyalty level when it dings. I am not gaining any XP from pet battles. Secondly, there are some beasts that don’t have any skills at all. You go from an average around 10 (unrested) kills worth of XP per quest completed at level 20ish to 15 worth per quest completed in the 40s, and by the time you're max level it's around 20 mobs worth of XP per quest completed. Once you get within 11 levels of your pet… start killing mobs 3-4 levels above your pet… they will be within 8 levels of you then… but the pet can hold a little aggro and allow you to kill it faster and gain more EXP. Basically picking the levelling pet to replace the dead pet counts as being alive at the end of a round.
